December 2015 – Broadband Light (BBL™) Treatments

This is the perfect season to continue working on improving the health and quality of your skin. If you’ve never had a BBL, now is a great time to get the best possible value. Check out the information from our December Newsletter below:

To understand what a BBL Treatment is, and whether or not you should get one, it helps to know what happens to our skin as we age.

Skin Anatomy

Throughout our lifetimes, sun damage, environmental pollutants, genetics and the aging process itself affect our skin profoundly:

  1. Melanocytes are little factories in the skin that create pigment in response to genetics and UV exposure. The more UV exposure you have, the more pigment is produced, ultimately resulting in the development of those little brown sun spots.
  2. Within the epidermis layer, can you see the nice dark pink portion? That’s where fresh new skin cells are made… cells which migrate upward and eventually die producing the lighter pink stratum corneum. When we’re young, the production of new skin cells happens almost constantly. But as we age, the process slows, leaving the skin looking dull and lackluster.
  3. The DNA responsible for making collagen (the stuff that makes skin plump) and elastin (the stuff that makes skin pliable) gets turned off, leaving the skin more wrinkled and fragile.
  4. Broken blood vessels develop, leaving the skin red and blotchy.
  5. The fat under the skin breaks down, leaving the skin with less support and resulting in the sagging we all hate.

A BBL procedure can reverse those effects and restore a healthy look to the skin. Here’s how:

In a BBL treatment, we take advantage of the healing rays of sunlight, shining them onto the skin without the nasty UV light. We are able to precisely pick several different filters, each of which are attracted by pigments in both melanocytes and broken blood vessels. This results in a gentle heating of the area, which induces a healing response. In addition, the light stimulates the DNA, turning it back on, allowing for renewed production of collagen and elastin.

The result is a younger, healthier looking skin, with science to back it up. We recommend a series of monthly treatments to correct existing damage. The number of treatments varies with the condition of the skin. Thereafter, a maintenance regimen of 2-4 treatments per year has been scientifically proven to delay further skin aging.
